FLEXcon of Elkton, KY held its
Grand Opening Ceremony. The focus of this manufacturing facility is
pressure-sensitive film products used in a major beverage manufacturer’s labels.
FLEXcon began in 1956 as a
small, garage-based business in Spencer, Massachusetts, specializing in
laminations of vinyl and metallic polyesters for use in women’s shoes and
handbags. The company was founded by Myles McDonough, whose son Neil currently
heads the organization as president and CEO.
Through the years, FLEXcon has
helped drive the dramatic growth in use of pressure-sensitive film products. In
the 1960s, FLEXcon expanded its capabilities to dye, brush, emboss, and topcoat
films, to meet the needs of a variety of industries. In the 1970s, the company
grew and innovated to keep pace with growth of the printing and appliance
industries and the dawn of economical label, emblem decal, and nameplate
materials. In the 1980s, FLEXcon extended its film product line to meet
expanding needs for on-demand variable information such as bar codes, UPC codes,
and unit pricing. FLEXcon expanded globally during the 1990s and built its first
non-U.S. manufacturing plant in Glenrothes, Scotland.
FLEXcon has grown into one of
the world’s premier polymeric coaters and providers of pressure-sensitive film
and adhesive products. The company has remained a family owned, privately held
company that values the long-term loyalty of customers, employees, suppliers,
and communities.
